Singaporean Residents Attend Get-Together With President

Bandar Seri Begawan - A total of about 200 Singaporeans in Brunei yesterday had the opportunity to greet and mingle in a get-together with the President of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, and his spouse, Mrs Mary Tan at the Indera Samudra Ballroom, The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
In a speech by the President, he stated that seeing so many Singaporeans in Brunei was particularly special given the unique relationship that Singapore has always had with Brunei.
"The Singaporean community here is rich in its diversity. Among you are doctors, lawyers, engineers, managers, students, and spouses. You may have different occupations and roles, but all of you play a crucial part in ensuring that these strong linkages continue," added the President of Singapore.h003
The President of Singapore said Brunei and Singapore have built an enduring partnership and remain committed to strengthening mutual understanding and friendship, highlighting one of Brunei's and Singapore's longstanding bilateral arrangements in terms of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement (CIA) to facilitate trade and investments.
The objective of the get-together was to give opportunity to the Singaporean residents in Brunei to personally meet with the President of Singapore since it is his first State Visit to Brunei as the President of Singapore.
